Sun Inside and Sun Outside (ცხვარს დაგიკლავ მაკესაო), with its form and materials, is a research-based work around the cult of the sun and the surrounding rituals in the local history and context. The given installation was a BA diploma project at the Visual Arts, Architecture, and Design School at the Free University of Tbilisi. The artwork opens (begins and is explained) with a folk song with the same title. It is one of the strongest expressions or even an archetype of the sun in Georgian culture. The contradicting lyrics that talk about the slaughtering of a pregnant lamb became the object of my artistic interest. All the materials used in the artwork are connected to the properties of the Sun. Wool and Tklapi, which serve as backgrounds for the given objects, both need to be dried under the Sun. Wax deals with light and Obsidian stones are found in volcanic areas. And as for the Poppy flower-covered bones, they are used regarding the question about life and death – mentioned in the lyrics of the given popular folk song.
